Surfing In and Near Alameda, California
An experienced chiropractor in Alameda, California, John Beall has been president of Rise Bodyworks since 2010 and vice president of BLVd Design Build since 2021. When he isn’t working, John Beall likes to surf.
Although the Oakland-adjacent city of Alameda is home to Alameda Beach, the waves in the San Francisco Bay area that abut it are far from huge. However, Alameda Beach has become a known surfing zone for exactly this reason. Several different surf schools have set up on Alameda Beach to teach beginners who are unable to handle themselves under large-wave conditions.
While more experienced surfers are bound to find Alameda Beach quite boring, there are several noteworthy places to surf nearby. For example, Ocean Beach in San Francisco’s Sunset District can offer swells as large as 15 feet during the winter months. While surfing conditions at Fort Point are often spotty, the chance to surf in the shadow of the Golden Gate Bridge certainly make this spot a location worth considering.
